Starting the new year STRONG!!

As the holiday season comes and goes, we enter a new year – 2023, a year where we aim to achieve bigger and better things.

This past year has been packed with an endless number of achievements, challenges, twist and turns, milestones and memories. From projects completed to breaking ground on the next, Contempora Steel Builders continues to be at the forefront of Pre-Eng Design Build Construction. Looking back we overcame the final waves of Covid, one of the snowiest winters and most wet springs in recorded history, and supply chain delays that seem to be never ending. And yet, we were still able to deliver on our promise of On Time and On Budget construction while also celebrating together at our Family BBQ and Employee Christmas Party.

So here’s to a New Year! Lets see what 2023 has in store for all of us. With plans for training and educational opportunities, new projects on the horizon and more Contempora team fun, this year is dedicated to growth, goals and fun times!

Building Along the No.1

Just as you leave the boundaries of Winnipeg, heading West through Headingley, you will notice a beautiful new multi-tenant commercial building taking shape. Once completed this structure will span over 16,000 square feet and be fit to house anywhere between one and eight new tenants!

With significant frontage to one of the busiest highways in Canada, this new property will be the perfect addition to Headingley.

Celebrating 30 Years!

 Don Lambert, our seasoned Field Superintendent, is celebrating 30 YEARS of dedicated service with Contempora Steel Builders. Since 1992 Don has been a vital member of the Contempora team, from erecting steel structures, managing hundreds of projects, and overseeing our crews.

Braving the Weather!

Supply chain disruptions are not the only delays we’ve had to overcome. The weather we have experienced over the past several months has certainly taken its toll. The summer was extremely hot, the snowfall was record breaking, and now we’re faced with severe overland flooding. With access being washed out, equipment sinking into the mud, and rain preventing us from erecting steel our Project Managers and Site Crews have certainly faced their fair share of hurdles. nevertheless, we’ve made a commitment to all our clients, to deliver Solid Builds On Time and On Budget, and we keep our word!

Innovair Stand Tall

Our teams hard work is now visible! The newest addition to the Innoviar Group, located at 150 McPhillips Street, is standing tall. Although we are still hard at work to finish the interior of the new building, the exterior has been erected, buttoned up and completed.

Helping Harvest Manitoba

After partnering with Harvest Manitoba in December and raising over $10,000 during the holiday season, a long lasting relationship blossomed. As we were on the verge of another lockdown, we wanted to do something that would support a few local businesses, give Winnipegger’s something to do and still give back to the community.

On May 8th we were fortunate enough to be the corporate sponsors to “Opa! An evening in Greece” a joint event between Johnny’s Maples Pizza, De Luca Fine Wines and Contempora Steel Builders. Attendees received a meal package containing several Greek staples such as chicken gyros, spanakopita, and lemon potatoes along with two (or more) bottles of perfectly paired wine. Everyone was then asked to join George and Johnny, virtually, to cook along and share in an evening of laughter. $20 from every package was donated to Harvest Manitoba.

With the support of those in attendance and our strategic corporate partners we were able to raise over $6,000! Thank you to all for your incredible support.

Standing Steel in the South

Our crews are hard at work erecting two new steel structures for Deveraux Developments in the South Landing Business Park. The project initially kicked into gear several months ago and as we transition from an unruly winter into a warmer than usual spring, so too has our crew transitioned from completing the first building to now standing steel for the second.

The two new structures, spanning a combined 28,000 square feet, will house several new tenants along McGillivray. The cold weather, high winds and rain won’t slow down our progress. Visit us on Facebook, Instagram and LinkedIn to follow along as we wrap up this solid build, on time and on budget!

Wrapping up a Gemstone

Throughout the last year we worked on several projects for Jade Transport Ltd. Initially one crew was responsible for strategically disassembling and labeling every component of an existing pre-engineered steel building in East Saint Paul. After shipping the building to Jade’s new facility on Kapelus, our crew was back to re-erect the structure, add an addition, install new exterior cladding and finish the interior to house the companies award-winning trucks. In the mean time, another crew was hard at work renovating Jade’s existing office on Dugald. This project encompassed the conversion of an old maintenance bay to feature a board room and comfortably house the logistics department.

Partnering With Harvest Manitoba!

What started off as a simple fundraiser, with a modest goal, ended up receiving a whirlwind of support. In an effort to spread some holiday cheer our staff set off to fundraise for Harvest Manitoba. Our initial goal was set at $2,500 with an agreement of an additional $5,000 donation from Contempora Steel Builders once the goal was met. After reaching our goal in just over a week, we decided to extend the deadline and increase our goal.

Shortly after announcing our new goal and reaching out to our community we once again reached our target! Thank you to everyone who donated to our fundraiser! With your help we were able to raise over $10,000 for this incredible local organization.

Building a Behemoth

In 2008, Contempora Steel Builders completed a design build project for Loveday Mushroom Farms, erecting a 72,660 square foot state-of the-art facility north east of the city. In 2016, Contempora was called on to build an addition, doubling the facility to 151,655 square feet. Earlier this year South Mill Champs took over operational ownership of Loveday’s facility and called on Contempora to expand their cultivating capabilities by another 89,180 square feet!

Plugging Away; Jade Transport Ltd.

Our team recently began the second phase of construction at Jade Transport Ltd. The project initially began several months ago with the strategic disassembly of an existing pre-engineered building owned by Jade. The building was taken apart piece by piece, labelled, organized, and stored to await re-erection on one of Jade’s other properties.

We are excited to announce that Contempora Steel has been chosen to build Vermeer Canada’s new location in Manitoba. The new facility will be just over 14,000 square feet and will be built at 1123 Kapelus Drive just north of the perimeter.

We are excited to announce that Contempora Steel has been chosen to build the new 8,953 SF detail shop for the Gauthier Automotive Group at 1375 Regent Avenue in Winnipeg. The current location is home to the Chrysler Dodge Ram Jeep dealership.

Loveday Mushrooms Purchased by US Supplier

South Mill Champs, one of the largest mushroom growers and suppliers in North America, has acquired Loveday Mushroom Farms. The combined efforts by the established Loveday facility and the numerous South Mill mushrooom growers will allow for a fresher supply of mushrooms to be distributed across Canada and the United States, in less time.
